Expert answer:biology responses

Solved by verified expert:response 150 wordsJoseph MorzuchI do believe it’s possible to get back on track as far as the environment is concerned. I believe a good way we are making a positive impact is solar energy. I must admit, I have invested in solar energy myself and I think it’s a no-brainer…depending on where your house is and which direction your roof is facing. I’ve had solar for about 3 months now and my monitoring app tells me I’ve produced enough power to save 3,400 lbs of C02 emissions which is the equivalent of planting 86 trees. According to this article on energyusage.com, “In New York, the average home uses 7,092 kWh of electricity annually. Choosing a clean source of electricity like solar panels can eliminate the same amount of carbon emissions that would result from burning 5,253 pounds of coal each year”.In our book, I remember one section that said we need to change human behavior to save the environment and here is an example of how corporate greed is effecting solar panel installations. The big energy companies will only approve 2% of a region to have solar panels. How they enforce that is by an approval process for every solar panel install. An application has to put in to the energy provider and they will see how many people in your area have solar panels and approve/deny based on those numbers. They also ensure that the amount of panels you install are ONLY enough to cover your yearly use. The don’t want you to make extra energy because they will have to pay your for it and they consider that commercial use and not residential. If they didn’t enforce such a policies, maybe we could help the environment more than we are currently.Emily Kunis Where I’m from the environment is very important. Most refer to people in the PNW (Pacific Northwest) as tree huggers, there is a lot of accuracy in that! I have learned how to recycle since I can remember, and not just a catch all bin, but plastics, glass, and paper. I think the day and age we live in it is easier for us to adapt to more environmentally safe products. Using paper straws, everyone already throws them away every use. I think we need to use products and see their harm though, and over a period of time so we can study what is wrong with what we’re using, once we have that knowledge I think we should change what we use. I’ve heard since I was a child that the plastic around 6-pack beverages can harm birds and turtles, and I have yet to see that change sadly. Where I live in Summerville, the trash company that services my house doesn’t even have recycling as an option, so for me to properly recycle everything I would have to take it myself, something I don’t have time for. I already try to do my part and all paper products we burn in our backyard, or I save the small boxes to re-use if I need to send something. Additionally, we can benefit by producing jobs! “1.57 jobs, $76,000 in wages, and $14,101 in tax revenues for every 1,000 tons of materials recycled (Agency, 2018).” To answer the last question, I would take my leftovers home gladly in a Tupperware container if I had to buy it, or recycled anything, rather than Styrofoam
